New Cut’s New Bridge

The recent closure of the Chocolate Path (now re-opened) was to allow ground testing for a new bridge over the New Cut, adjacent to the railway.

The pedestrian and cycle bridge will run from the Cumberland Road Bridge, across the River Avon, and up to the junction between Camden Road and Coronation Road on the South side of the river.

Docks Heritage Weekend 2014 – Photos and Video

Plenty of action on the dockside. 3 cranes in operation, along with the electric capstan shunting wagons. Actors from Show of Strength Theatre Company in character, loading demos, the Bristol Lorry, Portbury in Steam, and rides on tugboat John King to boot!

Winter Progress, or ‘Where’s the Point?’

Down at Butterfly Junction on a windy January day, the simplification of the track layout has seen the point to Ashton Swing Bridge removed…

Meanwhile, round the bend, the pointwork salvaged from defunct lines is being relaid at the end of Cumberland Road.
The self-propelled crane was in the process of bringing rail down from the junction….

… allowing the track layout to take shape before rain stopped play for the day. The area in the foreground is planned to become the entrance to the rebuilt ‘barn’ building.
