End of the Line
Track lifting is well under way at Butterfly Junction, just the pointwork rails and the sleepers remaining in the station area. These photos also show the vegetation clearance that has taken place.
Ashton Avenue Bridge is now closed for refurbishment, along with the former trackbed. No doubt the rails still on the bridge will be coming out shortly.
A different scene over at SS Great Britain Halt, where the buffer stop has been moved from the end of the line here. I believe that this is to be used as the basis for a small shed, which should come in useful if the branch along the New Cut is closed while MetroBus is under construction.
‘Kilmersdon’ at work
Blue skies and blue locomotive today, as Peckett 0-4-0ST ‘Kilmersdon’ is at work on passenger trains for the first services of 2015. The SS Great Britain and New Cut branches are in operation, come down to the docks for a ride!

Cold January mornings give everything a glistening sheen of frost.

The two steam locos were outside the shed this morning, Portbury was having her fire lit.

- Sugar Quay development looms behind
Level Crossing Work
The lines leading from the shed to the yard are being lifted in preparation for the new level crossing to be built. This will span both tracks at an angle.

No Point!
The staff and volunteers have removed the point from the shed road, formerly used as the coal wagon siding. This has now been relayed with plain rail. The access road’s new formation will go straight on here and round the back of the olive shed.
‘Henbury’, the square, and Sugar Quay
Henbury with a warming fire lit ahead of this bank holiday weekend’s services. Construction of the Sugar Quay development continues in the background, whilst in the foreground, the new square with map of Bristol inlaid, and new lighting overhead, is visible.
Whapping Wharf Building work update – March 2014
Work is forging ahead next door to M Shed, on the Wapping Wharf housing scheme. This includes the resurfacing of the square outside the engine shed, seen here:
The disused loop line has been cut into for drainage.
This scene is soon to change drastically, with the roadway being taken alongside the running line, to a new level crossing just out of sight.
